eLearning is a method that uses technologies to provide education outside of a typical classroom environment. It could be a course, degree, or a program totally online. The environment allows students to interact with lecturers in real-time over the internet. During class, students may raise their hands to ask questions or contribute to discussions. Students may appear in exams, participate in forums or workshops all online, enabling the opportunity to learn anytime from anywhere.
The “Digital Bangladesh” agenda stands on four pillars: government, education, business, and citizens. Nonprofits and governments may achieve this aim by collaborating on ICTs in education. Bangladesh is marching towards integrating ICT into education as part of the government's development plan and vision 2041. In 2009, Bangladesh conducted an e-Learning Math Pilot Study in Secondary Schools in Gazipur and Comilla with BRAC's aid (Project to Improve Secondary Teaching Quality) where the Ministry of Education formally opened TQI-Mobile SEP's ICT Lab on February 23, 2010 and by December 2010, 17 of these Mobile ICT Labs (14 Microbuses and 3 Four Wheel Drive Pickups) traveled across the country promoting e-Learning to instructors and students across 1000 schools. Each lab was composed of two digital cameras, a multimedia projector, a webcam, and five computers. This project provided students and teachers with useful insights on the necessity of ICT skills and improving teaching quality.
The project was successful in achieving its objective. It exemplified that when students learn through multimedia and gamified models, it enhances their ability to learn. It is the basic essence that is shaping the e-learning pathway and transforming the experience of 21st-century education. Learning Management Systems (LMS) or video conferencing software are the means of delivering e-education that allows instructors to interact with students, assess their participation, and grade assignments or tests. eLearning can employ Zoom, Google Meet, and other video conferencing apps and use its interactive features like innovative whiteboards, quick screen, information sharing, and cross-platform conversation. These tools can help students and instructors interact in real time and collaborate better, ultimately improving class delivery.
The following is a list of the most important benefits of online education:
1. Allows students to learn at any time and from anywhere
Students can enroll in, study, and complete their chosen courses from anywhere in the world. There is no need to go to brick-and-mortar institutions to enroll, arrange for housing, or travel long distances to accommodate class locations. This is a substantial benefit, especially for students who are working or caring for a family while attending school. E-Learning simplifies the learning process by utilizing online-based platforms to provide flexible and simple training approaches.
2. Significant cost savings
Students enrolling in an eLearning program can save a large amount of money from the time they enroll until they complete the course. Students can benefit from lower tuition expenses for programs that are comparable to those offered by traditional universities. In comparison to traditional education, providing courses and programs via the internet requires a fewer number of trainers and consultants, making eLearning a less expensive option.
3. Accessing just-in-time curriculum
Instructors can make adjustments to classes and learning materials before sending them to students who have signed up to access the network utilizing eLearning technologies. The updated materials are typically simply uploaded online, where students can access the necessary study information at their leisure. Alternatively, educators can use a video conferencing system to provide students with real-time information.
Instructors can share updated information with students using various software. Students can also download these files to their PCs for reviewing later. As a result, the educational curriculum is guaranteed to contain knowledge that is recent, consistent, and relevant to current time in comparison to traditional just-in-case teaching methods in which ancient backward-facing skills like ancient history and mathematical equations are taught that may or may not be valuable in the future.
4. Learning that is more personalised and effective.
Most online learning platforms provide personalized instruction to students considering each student’s learning capacities. Because online courses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, students can learn and review course content at their own pace while still meeting the curriculum's requirements. Instructors can utilize audio, video lessons, and quizzes, among other methods, to help students understand the concepts they are teaching.
5. Makes education accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Enrolling in an online education program is actually as easy as following a few simple steps that can be accomplished in a single day. Both new and working students will find it straightforward to enroll in, pursue, and complete their chosen courses in a stress-free atmosphere. None of the pupils are subjected to onerous restrictions like those seen in traditional academic institutions.
Why is eLearning the future of education?
Continuous learning
Continuous learning is a process of acquiring new skills and knowledge that allows people to pursue new interests and careers, as well as further existing ones. Adaptability is a must-have skill in today's workplace. E-Learning is a cost-effective way to change employees' personal and professional lives. This way, employees can easily compete and complete their work.
Individualized Learning Pathways
A customized learning path demonstrates a student's ability to understand the lesson matched to the best learning methods based on it. Online education offers every learner the opportunity to set their own goals and pace themselves while engaging with the teacher and other fellow students to achieve their personal goals.
The eLearning industry is focusing more and more on including more interactive online activities and exercises. This includes virtual classrooms, video lessons, image-rich slide-based modules, etc. to ensure that students get an overall immersive experience.
On-Demand Education
Online learning system is no longer caged by boundaries. Learners can take online courses from anywhere in the world at any time and any stage of life. Learners can select from a selection of courses to meet their needs. High-quality learning resources and advanced learning technology have revolutionized the learning system.
Like students, professionals may learn online to boost their jobs. Even corporations may engage the best professors for online training for their employees.
Gamified Learning
Gamification rewards players for each assignment or module. This engages kids and encourages them to learn. Learning platforms are integrating new features and design patterns to help retain student attention and increase engagement. The technique has already yielded good results. The companies' interactive learning tools, online currency vouchers, and more encourage learners.
Modern technology is gradually filling in the gaps. The same goes for eLearning. Information is as essential as food, clothes, and shelter in today’s time. It is vital to reach one's maximum potential. The gap between the skills learners need in the modern market and what traditional education delivers is growing and these skills are insufficient for today's jobs.
To meet the gap online schooling has received a lot of favorable feedback. As a result, eLearning will likely continue to not only exist but grow massively in the future. Upgrades and additions should make it more convenient for students. Professors are already embracing new methods to make online courses more interesting. Needless to say, in the foreseeable time education will be accessible to every learner seeking knowledge.
